Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Salim Bagus says Malawi’s economy stands to get a boost once a five-star hotel and an international airport are constructed in Mangochi.

Government, with financial support from Afreximbank, wants to construct a five-star hotel at Cape Maclear and an international airport at Namiyasi in the district.

Bagus: We anticipate a lot

Speaking in an interview on Friday after visiting the sites, Bagus expressed optimism that the two facilities will unlock the country’s fortunes to economic prosperity.

He said: “These are very big projects to stimulate Malawi’s economic growth because we anticipate to see a lot of forex coming into the country once they are operational.

“I am here to let you know that government will keep an eye on the two projects to see to it that they are constructed to help Malawi thrive economically.” In his remarks, Lake Malawi National Park manager McPhilip Mwithokona commended the minister for the visit, saying it has given them an assurance that government will construct the facilities.
